    The Developer Passport

Time to travel in the world of Computer Science! Every student will receive a limited Developer Passport to track their progress throughout the 8 weeks. We will be checking students' progress on watching the Lessons, participating in Coding Sessions, and completing the Weekly Survey. We will be awarding student with XPs in these activities. Students must complete at least 1000 XPs each week to stay in the program.

To track students' progress, we will use a "points system" where each activity they complete will give them XPs. Their goal is to get 1000 each week and 8000 throughout the 8 weeks to graduate from the Developer Program. If students fall behind, feel free to reach out to Mentors and Instructors on Slack or email to get assistance. We will track these points at the end of each week by getting students to fill out a short form to indicate activities they participated in.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When does the Program start?
A: Monday, June 29. The Program is an 8 week commitment as previously agreed on the Acceptance Form. If something comes up that prohibits the students from completing the full duration of the program, please contact us. Program Dates: 6/29 - 8/21

    Q: When are weekly lessons?
A: All lessons, coding activities, and workshops will be pre-recorded and released on our Program Site and Youtube (please bookmark & subscribe). We will be revealing new content each week.

    Q: Is there Homework?
A: Technically there is no required HW - However, to complete and graduate the Developer Program, students should earn 8000 XPs through fun program activities like Coding Sessions, Lesson Quizzes, Workshops and more! We will have plenty of activities for students to try out and explore each week. Please reference the Developer Guide (attached below) for more information about these activities and a weekly outline.

Q: How will you be tracking XPs/Student Progress?
A: At the end of the week, there will be a required weekly survey for students to fill out. This survey will be opened on Friday mornings and close on Saturday nights every week. In this survey students will let us know which program activities they completed/attempted - and based on this information we will update the students' Developer Passport (their XPs). Passports will be updated by Sunday night each week and can be viewed through the "Passport Portal" on our main site. The Passport Portal is currently not set up yet with students information (will be finished this weekend - so feel free to check starting next Monday!)

Q: How will students communicate with Mentors? How does the Mentorship work?
A: They will communicate twice a week with their Mentors on Discord (via text and voice channels). An important note for Parents - Discord allows video and share screen features that we will have enabled for Mentor Meetups. By allowing your students to use Discord, they may at anytime be using the video/share screen features and we (Mentors and admins) are only responsible to use these tools to assist with students learning during Mentor Meetup & other sessions (sharing Repl.It code, introducing themselves, explaining concepts via Audio). The Mentor Meetup times for your student can be found in your Mentor / Tech Set Up email. Mentor Meetup are structured towards each student group and their experiences. We will have recommended questions for Mentors to ask students, but we will keep Mentor Meetup Structures flexible on students needs (Mentor Meetup session may include Mentors reviewing concepts, trying out coding sessions together on Repl.It via screen share, career-related conversations etc.)

Q: Why hasn't my student been assigned a Mentor on Discord?
A: Yes, we are working on adding over 300+ students to their respective Mentor channels on Discord. Therefore as a 2-person team, it is very very difficult if students have a username/Nickname that is not their names (because we won't be able to identify you). Therefore to help us speed up this process, please change your nickname to your name so we can add you smoothly. If not, you may not get added to your Mentor channels before week 1.  To check that you have a Mentor, your left tab on Discord should have your Mentor name under Mentor Meetup and Mentor Voice categories as seen below.

Q: Will I as a parent be getting emails about the Program?
A: Yes, we will be sending you a Weekly Program Newsletter each Sunday to preview the upcoming week's events, feature cool program information, Mentor spotlight, etc.
