When/how did you get into tech?
Growing up, my parents pushed me to become a healthcare provider. This led me to develop a passion for healthcare. However, when my mom got a FitBit to help better manage her diabetes, I became fascinated with the concept of using technology to improve personal and community health. This ignited my interest in tech. During the end of sophomore year in college, I got the courage to tell my parents that I did not want to be a healthcare provider. In the following year, I turned down my nursing school offer, began taking computer science and informatics classes, and getting involved in as many student technology activities as I could!

    Favorite quarantine hobby?
My favorite quarantine hobby is hiking! It is relaxing and a great way to spend time with family. There are a lot of

  • beautiful hikes near where I live in Oregon, so I need to make the most of my time here while I am at home!

Advice for students/developer about learning CS?
One advice for students/developers learning CS is don’t be afraid to ask questions. Learning a computer programming language can be difficult. Therefore, it is important that you ask questions whenever you are stuck so that you can better understand the concept and learn how to approach it later on. Most, if not everyone, has struggled while learning CS. There are many students out there who have most likely encountered the same issues and have been in the same position as you. So don’t be afraid to ask questions and get the help you need, because there are resources and people who are there to help you!

What's your favorite part about studying tech/engineering?
My favorite part about studying tech is learning about the opportunities and growth this industry has to offer. There are a lot of different career paths you can take within tech, which I love! For example, you could be a software engineer, user researcher, UX/UI designer, or product manager. I also like learning about how interdisciplinary the tech field is. Whether you are interested in the business, healthcare, or fashion industry, there are tech careers within these fields that you can go into if you

  • are interested in the technological aspects of other fields.

    Favorite song/artist/movie recommendations?
I highly recommend watching Michelle Obama’s Netflix documentary, Becoming. The documentary is very inspiring and is great to watch if you want to watch something inspirational or just learn more about Michelle Obama! Becoming is also a book, but I have yet to read it. If you prefer reading over watching a documentary, then I recommend you read the book!
